Cottonwood Trail Bridge was created for a design build proposal, to re-contextualize a generic truss bridge, sold by one of several bridge venders. The proposed site is along a wooded trail over Cottonwood Creek. The cottonwood tree inspires our design. For us, its heart-shaped leaf symbolizes community love, qualities valued by this family-oriented community. The laser cut patterning creates a shadow garden that complements the shadows of the tree canopy. The proposal integrates pattern and structure, transforming an ordinary truss structure into context sensitive design, responsive to its site and community.
